This set of pages provides a guide to the palette variously known as
"the Netscape palette," the "web-safe colors" or the "Web 216 colors."
It uses a palette of 216 colors, arranged in a cube of equal steps of
red, green and blue. Whatever its weaknesses (and there are many) we
have to use these colors wherever we show a block of color on a webpage,
unless we want the colors to appear with ugly dither patterns when shown
on a screen with 256 colors.
To explore the palette, click one of the black squares on the color
wheel on the left. Each page shows all the colors of one hue, or a small
range of hues.
