The idea behind "The Forum" software tool is to provide university and college students with an on-line group discussion faciliated by an educator which can encourage and track their critical thinking processes.
For a given topic, the students post the information or opinions and classify them in predefined categories. Based on the classification, they will asked to provide specific types of supporting evidence and evaluate all evidence and contributions according to accepted criteria.
From this a visual map is created that shows the links between the knowledge contributed by all students. Peer evaluation will be an intrinsic part of participating in the processs. The intention of this process is that students will learn to evaluate arguments in a constructive way from a variety of perspectives.
The Forum is currently at the concept exploration stage and we are in the process of collecting opinions and feedback. If you are an educator or are interested in the development of this concept, please contact us.
